Man, 75, jailed four months and banned from driving for five months for fatal accident

A 75-year-old retired teacher who ran a red light and caused the death of a passenger in a lorry was on Friday sentenced to four months' jail.
Pancratius Joseph D'rozario, who is married with three grown children, was also banned from driving for five years and fined $5,000 for causing injury to three others in the lorry. He drove his car into the junction of Victoria Street and Ophir Road on the afternoon of May 9, 2010 and hit the lorry, which flipped onto its left side and landed in the middle of the junction.
This resulted in the death of Madam Surjit Kour, 56, who was in the rear seat.
D'rozario claimed the light was green in his favour during his eight-day trial. But the court convicted him of driving dangerously and causing Madam Kour's death, and rashly causing hurt to her companions, It found that he must have known the lights were red against him from the presence of other vehicles that had stopped at the junction.
