Man, 46, arrested for alleged snatch theft

SINGAPORE - The police have arrested a 46-year-old man for suspected involvement in a case of snatch theft along Jurong West St 42.
The female victim was walking under a linkway to Blk 419 Jurong West St 42 on Jan 6 at about 2pm when the suspect came from behind to snatch away a handbag slung on her left forearm.
The suspect then fled.
Through extensive investigations, officers from Jurong Police Division managed to establish the identity of the suspect and arrested him in the vicinity of Boon Lay MRT station on Jan 14.
The suspect will be charged in court on Jan 16 for the offence of Using Criminal Force to Commit Theft under Section 356 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224.
He can be jailed between one and seven years, and can also be caned.
Commander of Jurong Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Wilson Lim commended his officers for their policing efforts.
He said the police will spare no effort in tracking down the perpetrators of such crimes and bring them to justice.
