SINGAPORE - A 25-year-old man believed to have been involved in a snatch theft at Sentosa has been arrested.

The incident allegedly occurred on Saturday, Jun 20, when a 57-year-old woman lodged a police report claiming that her handbag, containing her personal belongings and valuables, was snatched by an unknown man.

In a statement on Sunday, the police said that the woman had shouted for help after her bag was snatched, which alerted security officers in the vicinity who came to her assistance.

Security officers then managed to detain the thief after a short chase and recover the woman's belongings.

The man was subsequently arrested by the police and will be charged in court on Monday, Jun 22.

If convicted for the offence of snatch theft, he could be jailed for up to seven years, and may also be liable to caning.
