Praise for recognising honest cop
KUALA LUMPUR: Pemandu has praised the move by federal traffic police chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Mohd Fuad Abdul Latiff to award a letter of commendation to a policeman for rejecting a bribe.
Pemandu Anti-Corruption National Key Result Area Unit director Ravindran Devagunam said it was important to recognise good ethics as it could motivate others.
“We hope with more reports of positive incidents, the perception that the police is always on the take will be erased,” he said yesterday.
The policeman, a corporal from Johor, had torn up a RM20 note offered by a motorist to avoid being issued a summons.
Ravindran also praised the initiative by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar to impose an integrity test on all police recruits, which may be extended to personnel who are set for promotion.
“It is extremely important for the IGP to set a strong tone from the top. Ultimately, consequential management on those who do not pass the test must be applied,” he said, adding that other key enforcement agencies should emulate the police’s move.
