Two men were shot dead shortly before 1am on Tuesday (June 17) outside a shopping mall along Jalan Loke Yew in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur.

According to The Star, the victims were heading to their car, which was parked nearby, when a group of men wearing black ski masks arrived in a multi-purpose vehicle and opened fire at 12.48am.

Both victims, believed to be in their 40s and originally from Sibu, Sarawak, sustained gunshot wounds to the head and body and were pronounced dead at the scene, reported local media.

"Both victims were suspected of being involved in smuggling activities in Sarawak, as well as murders," said Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa.

Comm Rusdi did not discount the possibility that the victims were being followed by individuals holding a grudge prior to the shooting, reported The Star.

According to NST, the police have classified the case as murder and are currently seeking information from eyewitnesses.

Second shooting case within a week

This marks the second shooting case to occur in Kuala Lumpur within a week.

On June 13, a separate shooting incident at a restaurant in Brickfields left one person dead and two others injured.

CCTV footage circulating on social media of the attack showed a group of seven men dining when two gunmen arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire from behind.

According to Free Malaysia Today, the incident occurred at around 10.50 pm, and the men were aged between 30 and 50.

No cause for concern

Speaking about the two cases, Comm Rusdi sought to reassure the public and stated that that there is no cause for concern regarding public safety, reported The Star.

"Both shooting incidents were the result of conflicts originating elsewhere and were brought to Kuala Lumpur," he said.

Despite this, he emphasised that the Criminal Investigation Department, along with all relevant units within the police force, remains fully committed to investigating both cases and ensuring justice is served.

He added that police have mobilised all available resources to track down the suspects.

Northern side above KL, it's more unstable.
Southern side below KL, it's more stable and less of cowboy town.
