A foreign domestic worker leapt eight floors to her death after her employers found that she had stolen from them, a coroner's court heard.
Shaik Razzia, 25, an Indian national, had been working for the couple - both also Indian nationals - for about seven months before her death-fall from a block of flats in Bukit Batok West Avenue 6 on May 27, 2011.
At an inquest into her death on Friday, the court heard that while she was at a nearby playground with her employers' children, her female employer, quality assurance executive Chalamalasetti Venkata Naga Rama Jyothi, 33, checked her room on May 26 as the couple had been missing cash and other valuables from the household.
Madam Jyothi found a pouch hidden within a cushion containing $95 and other valuables. When confronted, the maid initially denied stealing the items, but came clean after she was shown the cash and items.
Her employer, Kotha Lakshmana Rao, 37, a software engineer, found her missing from the room the next morning. While trying to look for her, he saw police at the void deck and was informed of the maid's death.
The maid might have taken nail polish before her death as they were found in her stomach, the court was told.
State Coroner Imran Abdul Hamid found that she had the intention to end her own life.
