The eldest son of former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, Mirzan Mahathir, suffered losses estimated at RM1.8 million (around S$546,000) after his home in Bukit Ledang, Malaysia, was broken into.
The incident took place on Jul. 22.
According to The Vibes, the incident occurred at around 5pm and was discovered by their domestic helper, who noticed that the padlock on the back door had been cut and the bedroom of Mirzan's daughter, Khadijah, had been ransacked.
It was later confirmed that several items were missing from the bedroom, including a Cartier bangle, gold rings, earrings, a pair of golden chopsticks, jade bangles, old passports and foreign currency.
The two-storey bungalow, located on a lot that is approximately 65,340 square feet, is equipped with 24-hour surveillance and 16 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, though the system only supports live viewing and does not have a recording function.
Investigators collected the cut padlock as evidence and recovered three fingerprints in the bedroom, which were then sent to Bukit Aman for analysis.
A K-9 unit from Pulapol was also brought in to aid in investigations.
Acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan confirmed the incident, stating that "the estimated loss is RM1.8 million" (approximately S$546,000), as reported in New Straits Times (NST).
He added that the police have yet to identify any suspects and that investigations are currently ongoing, with the police "reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage".
The case is currently being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for house-breaking.
