SINGAPORE - It seems the decision to quit her job to concentrate on grassroots work is starting to pay off.
Newly-elected Member of Parliament (MP) Tin Pei Ling, 27, told reporters yesterday at a community event at Toa Payoh that the people of MacPherson are warming up to her.
Calling it a "significant change", she said: "I guess, given what has happened, they recognise me, but they have also become warmer."
She was referring to her baptism of fire when contesting as a People's Action Party (PAP) candidate in Marine Parade GRC in May's General Election.
Harsh comments were directed at her. After PAP's victory in Marine Parade GRC was announced, many even called for her resignation on Facebook.
It has been a month since Ms Tin quit her job as a business consultant at Ernst & Young to focus on being an MP.
However, she said it was still too early to tell whether the public's negative perception of her had changed, but she was viewing it as a positive sign that residents seemed more at ease with her.
Revealing that she would not be looking for a job so soon, she added that she was just focusing on MacPherson, and on the people.
Nowadays, Ms Tin busies herself with meeting residents at Meet-the-People Sessions and making block visits twice a week.
