Ravi MRavi: "Last week one fella was saying he got aids. I said don't go to the sauna. Eh, he is a police officer, you know. And he has sex with men.
Where? There are hundreds of so many saunas in Singapore. You say men cannot have sex with men. How come the government give all the license for police officers to screw around in the sauna?
Young boys and boys are going to the sauna and getting screwed by old men. They are getting AIDS. Now you know why the homosexual AIDS is rising. Because so many saunas... You ask Alex Waipang Au - he also set up a sauna."
...for those 'not in the scene', Alex used to own a sauna called Rairua in Neil Road. It described itself as the 'benchmark for future upstarts in the gay spa business here'.
Alex should be thankful to Ravi for the free publicity. Unfortunately, Rairua has since closed down, although it is not clear whether Alex is 'still in the business'.
An article had described Rairua as so: "A multi-level sauna alongside Neil Street, the brainchild of activist Alex Au, it opened in 2002 and positioned alone as Singapore's initially luxury gay sauna, with prices to match. It pioneered Singapore's first 'skin nights' touted as 'all nude, all floors, all night', a idea that unexpectedly proved so common among supposedly 'conservative' Singaporean gays that such nude nights spread to all saunas within the span of one calendar year and continue to be a significant draw."
