A Singaporean and his Filipino wife, along with 17 other associates were charged with providing illegal sexual services at some of their pubs on Orchard Road.

Ang Boon Seng, 40, and his wife Ylarde Anne Asuncion, 31, owned 9 pubs and bars around Singapore and they earned about $1.08 million within four years from 2009 to 2013.
Their high earnings were thanks mainly to their sexual services that they illegally provided to patrons.

The fees for such sexual services at two of the nine pubs they owned made up for 40% of their total profits.

Customers could buy oral sex from the Filipino hostesses at the two bars on Orchard Road as long as they bought enough “ladies drinks” which cost between $22 to $55.

Customers could also pay a “bar fine” of about $200 to take the women out for activities which usually include sexual intercourse.

Ang faces 232 charges in total. The charges include abetting with others to procure women for the purpose of prostitution, abetting with others to harbour the women, living off their immoral earnings and managing brothels.

His wife is also awaiting sentencing for six charges of procuring women for the purpose of prostitution and one count of living off immoral earnings.

His wife had recruited women whenever she returned home to visit family. She would explain to them that the women were being hired as “performing artists” but would have to pay a “debt” by performing sexual services to customers before they could earn money. She would then arrange for the women to fly to Singapore.

In total, the couple employed over 55 women and their profits could reach up to $60,000 a month.

The courts heard that Ang hired managers to run his pubs and installed CCTV cameras which sent live feeds to his office so he would be alerted if there were any police officers around. If there were, he would call his managers and get them to stop giving sexual services while police were around.

All the pubs that Ang owned have now been closed down and he is expected to be sentenced on Monday.
