ERP gantries 'to manage congestion, not for revenue'

by CHANNEL NEWSASIA

Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) gantries collected a total of S$159 million for the financial year 2010, up from S$149 million in the preceding financial year.

For the period up to end-October last year, the amount stood at S$97 million.

Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew said this in response to questions from Non-Constituency Member of Parliament Lina Chiam.

He stressed that the gantries are tools to manage congestion and are not meant to generate revenue.

The gantry at Nicoll Highway collected the highest amount - some S$32,000 based on the weekday average in a typical month. The gantry at Upper Boon Keng Road collected the lowest amount at S$130.

Like the Red Indians of the wild wild west, Mr Lui speaks with Forked Tongue, depending on situation.

There are many, many other ways to manage congestion without the need to impose ERPs.

Less people on the island = less traffic on the roads = less congestion.

Simple solution.

You don't even need to have COEs. All you need to do is impose a 'One (private) Vehicle Policy' for each household (similar to China's One Child Policy), then monitor (satellite-track) the mileage of cars. If there's a need, slap on a fuel tax, giving rebates to business and public transport vehicles only.

The COE system is unreliable, inefficient and not elegant. COE prices fluctuate.

Damn solid eh? All our ministars are trained to look at you eyeball to eyeball and never blink or twitch while telling yo a lie. knn very well trained, or maybe they are animals la.

They have snake eyes. ERP, Every Day Rob people, not to make money, then, remove some of them. First class liar, like he said, he never watched PORN, never!, so believe!

$150 millions collected and still we get congestions.

That is nothing compared if you add COE, 7% GST on everything related to the car, the tax on fuel, parking, numerous traffic fines and etc. If I am not mistaken, the government takes many billions of $$$ from car owners.

"The villagers asked, 'Are these mushrooms any good? They are so pretty. Shall we remove some of these tall trees and allow the wild mushrooms to grow?' And so the wise old man told them that these mushrooms may look pretty but some of them are poisonous, and 'if you associate too closely with them, these wild mushrooms will weaken us, stunt our growth, and retard our development. Leave them alone, protect the trees, these trees are special trees'."

On days where I have to do morning shifts, I got to leave the house at 6.30 am to avoid the bloody morning jams...Its fucking infuriating being stuck inside the car feeling all sleepy waiting for the jam to ease off.. What fucking cock is he talking about managing congestions... KNN, maybe his mouth is too fully congested with cocks being shoved inside, that he can even try to deceive Sporeans with a stupid ridiculous statement like this..

This is such bullshit!

If it is not meant for making money, why do they set up gantry everywhere including non-congested area.

If it is not meant for making money, why do they turn on the gantry at business district on Saturday evening when there is almost no traffic at all, and charging SGD2 per entry?

If it is not meant for making money, why is it that when residents of Kallang and Toa Payoh asked, " why you set up the gantry in our neighbourhood?" the answer is, " it won't affect you"?

The fact remains that ERP is deemed a failure in controlling traffic volume and only seek to increase the burden of motorists. By turning on the ERP at CTE until 10PM everyday, they are simply telling people up north that " you can't go home till late at night unless you pay up".

LTA really need to be transparent on the matter. They need to reveal how much revenue they have received per year through ERP and what have they done with the money. So far ERP has been operating for so many years yet little has been done to improve the road condition.
