LTA just squandered $556M on technologically premature project?

But that project - which started in 2016 and was slated to be rolled out from this year - has been in the slow lane.
In this year's Budget, Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat said “the technology to do this properly... is still several years away".
This is a shame. After all, the Land Transport Authority awarded NCS-Mitsubishi Heavy Industries $556 million to build the system four years ago after conducting extensive trials that proved its viability.

this is another of those laundry that gahmen would take opportunity from this pandemic to write-off from dodgy investment under pinky's boss
they have planted revenue everywhere for their easy access to make or writeoff, besides exhausting treasury funds and reserves.
 
they need 5G to make this work. probably too many blind spots with the current system.
