Very civil of the cyclist not to make a mountain out of a molehill. He of course using the sidewalk and therefore need to see incoming vehicles first. If he was using the road, he got right of way. Unfortunately, it's a one way street. So he used sidewalk as a short cut.

This shows just how much safer cyclists are. If a car was driving against the flow of traffic the collision would have severely damaged the van and injured the innocent van driver.
