A lorry driver who caused the death of a motorcyclist through his negligence was fined $7,000 and banned from driving for four years on Tuesday.

Chay Wai Choong, 71, admitted to causing the death of Mr Utrakumaran Samivel, 52, along Pioneer Sector 1 by failing to give way to him before making a U-turn and encroaching into his path.

The collision resulted in the death of the 52-year-old Malaysian security officer from multiple injuries.

A district court heard that after breakfast, Chay returned to his lorry and intended to make a U-turn into Pioneer Sector 1.
