With the recent major disruptions to our train network, perhaps,Singapore could follow HK's example.
HK's Mass Transit Railway (MTR) is a 218 km metro network that serves 1.6 billion passengers a year and carries,on average,5.2 million passengers a day.
The MTR invests about HK$5 billion( S$873 million) in maintenance ,upgrades and renewals to its system. The company is mindful that, even with the latest systems, things have to be changed every 10 years.

It shows that paying the highest salaries in the world does not bring you results.
Only shows human avarice .
salaries should be tied to performance and based on this , ministers if they have any honour to begin with should voluntarily take a hefty pay cut.
