SINGAPORE: Queues of lorries at the Woodlands Checkpoint came to a standstill on Monday evening.
Drivers of the heavy goods vehicles said it usually takes an hour to clear through the customs checkpoint, but many had to wait several hours on Monday.
At one point the jam stretched 10 kilometres — from Ten Mile Junction in Bukit Panjang to the Woodlands Checkpoint.
The authorities said the jam was caused by a surge in traffic volume.
"Today is especially crowded. Normally it isn’t. When I turned in from Woodlands and saw that it was jammed, I knew it would be a long wait," a lorry driver said.
