By Reico Wong
<!-- end by line -->
<!-- end left side bar --> <!-- story content : start --> A 34-YEAR-OLD man was arrested with the help of two vigilant residents on Monday evening for suspected involvement in loanshark harassment. At about 7.50 pm on Monday, a 42-year-old resident was in his Yishun flat when he heard suspicious noises outside his unit. On checking, he saw an unknown man lingering at the corridor and the door of his neighbour splashed with paint. The resident called out to the man who immediately fled. The public--pirited resident then gave chase and managed to detain the suspect. The suspect, however, put up a violent struggle and a scuffle ensued. Another nearby resident, 48, who heard the commotion, came to his neighbour's assistence. Together, the two men managed to subdue the suspect and detained him. Police arrived shortly afterwards and arrested the suspect. A marker pen, some containers of paint, a notebook and a mobile phone containing addresses which are believed to belong to debtors were found in the man's possession and seized for investigation. The suspect is believed to be involved in other loanshark harassment acts, including splashing paint on debtors' units and scrawling loanshark-related graffiti on the walls of staircase landings, in the Ang Mo Kio and Yishun estates. Investigations are on-going.
