After decades of trying to impress the Western world how Singapore is a great place to invest, do business, come for holiday, etc this letter is a slap in the face for the govt.

Notes from an American tourist
Published on Dec 21, 2011
I AM an American tourist who arrived in Singapore on Dec 11. I was told by many that Singapore had a world-class public transport system that was very reliable, using a combination of trains, buses and taxis.
But since I arrived, here is the public transport timeline:
•Sunday, Dec 11: No issues.
•Monday, Dec 12: No issues.
•Tuesday, Dec 13: No issues.
•Wednesday, Dec 14: Circle Line breaks down.
•Thursday, Dec 15: North-South Line breaks down.
•Friday, Dec 16: No issues.
•Saturday, Dec 17: North-South Line breaks down.
•Sunday, Dec 18: Trains delayed due to inspection.
•Monday, Dec 19: Trains running with reduced frequency.
So there were serious problems in five of the nine days I have been here.
I also read of bus drivers getting lost in plying their new routes.
I did not want to ruin my vacation, so I decided to rent a car. From what I have observed, I would be very hesitant to call the MRT system reliable or world-class.
I also do not think that I will be taking the train in Singapore until the causes of these breakdowns are found and announced.
