Lawyer back in trouble again <!--10 min-->

A LAWYER, already suspended once for overcharging clients, will now face the Court of Three Judges over a new complaint. A disciplinary tribunal found that Mr Low Yong Seng had 'grossly overcharged' a client for what appeared to be a 'straightforward divorce matter'. The tribunal also objected to how the overcharging took place, with Mr Low asking for extra payments of almost $10,000 after the client agreed to the original quotation of $2,000 to $3,000. The tribunal, consisting of Senior Counsel Tan Cheng Han and Mr Cheah Kok Lim, has referred the matter to the Court of Three Judges, which has the power to bar a lawyer from practice. The case happened six years ago, but resurfaced only last year. The client first made a complaint in 2004 but could not be tracked down then. It would not be the first time Mr Low has fallen afoul of the Legal Profession Act.
