Arent we proud of our bilingual education system? 1 billion Chinese on mainland, 23 million Taiwanese and 2 million PRCs here probably laughing and rolling on the floor.

Why shouldn't we? The fact that you can laugh at them and think that you are better is a already a credit to the gahment who had the foresight and long term view that had we not introduced the bilingual education policy, more Sporeans may speak not so good mandarin. Imagine the many Ah Bengs and Ah Lians will speak even worse English and Mandarin.

These elderly gentlemen were not the products of the PAP gahment policy - they were under the British policy, I think, the Senior Cambridge and Higher Senior Cambridge era.

So give yourself a pat on the back and thank Dr Goh Keng Swee aka PAP for introducing the Bilingual policy.

Well if they are babas then it's understandable why they speak poor mandarin.

It's no small task to be able to speak and write two languages equally well, not to mention three. This has already been said many a time wisely by former Minister Mentor Lee - that's why the bilingual policy had to be tweaked several times to enable more people to cope.

Look at our PM Lee. He speaks three languages excellently - that's why he is a worthy of being a respected Prime Minister.

A good linguist gets your vote for PM?
Speaking and even writing a few languages not a big fucking deal...

Wrong. My gen was before the bilingual policy. I had to use Chinese brush to write Chinese, right to left, and grind my own black ink, sat for Senior Cambridge and HSC, and had Pre-university instead of JCs. I believe we spoke infinitely better than babas like TT, LKY in Hokkien, Teochew, cantonese, and Mandarin. Can't say my English is not better than TT, TKL or TJS, even LHL. Maybe cant beat LKY and KGC.

Yes but let me add further. It also depends on the languages one speaks. Suppose you can speak spanish fluently now how difficult would it be to learn portugese for eg? It's the same for english and german even though both sound quite different but it wouldn't be as difficult to learn compared to learning english and chinese which are polar opposites of one another.
