New Zealand man stalks missing British girl's mum

A New Zealander, who became obsessed with the mother of an English girl who disappeared 10 years ago, has been fined for assault and issued with a restraining order.
Charlene Downes disappeared, allegedly after having been abused by dozens of men in her home city Blackpool. Then police say her body was disposed of in a takeaway shop mincing machine.
Her killer has not yet been found.
Blackpool Magistrates Court has been told that New Zealand restaurant worker Mark Bailey, 27, moved to England to be with Karen Downes after months of chatting to her on a website dedicated to her daughter, Charlene.
The Blackpool Gazette reports that Bailey asked Mrs Bailey, 48, to leave her family and live with him.
When she refused he pulled her hair during a confrontation in a Blackpool street.
Gary McAnulty, defending, said Bailey believed he was in a proper relationship with Mrs Downes and moved from New Zealand so it could flourish.
"It was slightly bizarre because Mrs Downes is married and lives with her husband," Mr McAnulty said.
"After being warned by police he arranged to meet her to discuss matters and said he loved her.
"I have had to explain to him she wants nothing more to do with him. It is a sad end."
Bailey pleaded guilty to assaulting Mrs Downes and was fined STG75 ($NZ150) and put on a restraining order for six months.
