DAP strongman praises Abdullah Badawi and seeks a Govt Post for his defeated rival Ghani.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 9 — DAP’s Lim Kit Siang today praised former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, while also asking that his polls rival Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman be given a post in the new Barisan Nasional (BN) administration.

Lim described Abdullah’s statement yesterday as being the “most sensible, level-headed and statesmanlike” comment on the results of last Sunday’s polls.

He was referring to Abdullah’s reported call for a halt to all attempts to racialise the polls results by blaming a particular community for BN’s weaker parliamentary majority, where the former national leader was yesterday quoted saying: “This is unfair and unhelpful”.

Despite holding on to power with its win of 133 federal seats, BN lost the popular vote and had a poorer showing this time round, which led the current Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to suggest that it was due to a “Chinese tsunami”.

Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who was Abdullah’s predecessor, later said he was shocked at BN’s poor performance in Election 2013, laying the blame on “ungrateful” Chinese and “greedy” Malay voters.

Lim then accused Najib, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Dr Mahathir of making such “unfair and unhelpful” statements, saying that they must apologise for their “irresponsible” statements.

Analysts and opposition leaders have disagreed with Najib’s reading of the election results, pointing out that PR had won the popular vote by a signficant 51.4 per cent to BN’s 48.6 per cent.

They said that this showed that it had not merely been a “Chinese tsunami” that caused BN to bleed seats as there was a massive swing in the urban and middle-class electorate towards the federal opposition.

The DAP advisor also said Ghani was a moderate and rational man, saying that the former Johor Mentri Besar had contributed to the state and country’s development during his four terms of service.

“And I think it’ll be a shame that those who got him fielded in Gelang Patah in order to see the end of Ghani Othman have their way.

“I think it’s only just and fair for Ghani Othman to be appointed to an important post in the new government...” Lim said.

The 72-year-old Lim had contested against 66-year-old Abdul Ghani for the Gelang Patah federal seat, emerging a victor in the MCA stronghold when he defeated the latter by 14,762 votes.

During Abdul Ghani’s 18-year service as the Johor Mentri Besar, the Iskandar Malaysia economic corridor was introduced in the state’s southern region, successfully bringing in RM103 billion in investments and creating 554,000 job opportunities in just a few years’ time.

Won't be surprised if the DAP is co-opted into the BN, thereby completely marginalising Anwar.

UALA LUMPUR, May 8 — Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi today demanded a stop to all attempts at racialising last Sunday’s polls by blaming a particular community for Barisan Nasional’s (BN) poor showing at the ballot boxes.

“This is unfair and unhelpful,” he said in a statement here.

The former prime minister, who stepped down in favour of Datuk Seri Najib Razak in 2009 after he led BN to lose its coveted two-thirds parliamentary majority in Election 2008, agreed that following Sunday’s polls results, there was a pressing need for the country to undergo the process of national reconciliation and unity.

He also called on the opposition to accept and respect the election results, despite the fact that they had lost by slim majorities amid claims of fraud and widespread irregularities in the polling process.

“Malaysians deserve stability and certainty that can only come with finality and closure from this election,” he said in his message to the opposition.

“Let us move on in the interest of all Malaysians.”

Which also caused massive inflation and a sharp spike in crime rate.

Kit Siang already said No to the suggestion..

MCA can't stand DAP and likewise DAP can't stand MCA.. DAP would never be meek like MCA and bow down to every UMNO's demands..

So the thoughts of DAP holding hands with BN is never going to happen in the near future..

UMNO will never accept DAP into its ranks...Right now the UMNO warlords and right wingers who benefit most from the bumi policies want to control everything again...they will get rid of Najib,,I do hope the warlords gain control, the people will be more pissed off with and it will be easier for the oppos to win the next time,,,I also believe that the fraud in this election will blow up in UMNOs face....

The main issue is whether the Pakatan coalition will hold over the medium term. Anwar seems to be the main person keen on protesting the election results.
I think some elected personalities in Pakatan will not be keen on many more protest rallies when the reality is that they will change nothing.

I think also some elected members of Anwar's PKR will soon switch sides and join BN, or at least become BN friendly, as was the case after the 2008 GE.
So, there is that precedent. BN, as the incumbent, has all the advantages, including a vast treasure trove of cash.

Don't think his UMNO masters will give him any post in the Federal Govt as a punishment for him losing to one of BN's hated enemy Kit Siang.. UMNO clowns at Putrajaya are still reeling from the loss of Gelang Patah..

One of Anwar's closest aide is already voicing out his disagreement on PKR holding more rallies like last night.. He 's also feeling sore that he may not be appointed for the CM of Selangor post.. Things are like these are not helpful to Anwar and PKR at this crucial moment..

Actually, it seems Anwar wants to take a back seat..but the thing is who can succeed him? I think he is trying to groom a successor,,,and from this shit that UMNO is sprouting,,PAS looks like a better bet than UMNO,,,less racist and more willing to compromise. And PAS even thank the chinese voters for voting from them. For UMNO the cina get criticised for voting DAP,,being called Chinese Tsunami and all that crap,,,MCA lost because it failed in its duties to the Chinese,,,blame UMNO and blame MCA,,why blame the voters? UMNO is like PAP...

PAS enjoys immense support from the Chinese in Kelantan.. The PAS mullahs didn't disturb the many Churches, Wats and Temples there.. In fact Kelantan Chinese businessmen with the backing of PAS were even able to raise many funds to build new temples and upgrade the existing ones.. In fact Kelantan has one of the highest number of temples in Malaysia..

Glad to know PAS is more pro chinese than UMNo.

I had the opportunity to visit Kelantan on the way to Thailand years ago.. We hooked up with another big bike group from KL who lead us the way to Kelantan..

We took the chance to have few visits at the temples there..

The Wats and the temples were one the grandest and biggest I had ever seen.. Even our Chinatown's Buddha Tooth Relic Temple is no match for the big temples found in Kelantan..

PAS is really misunderstood,,but thank goodness the voters in PAS state see the hypocrisy of UMNO,,,

Not going to happen. It will cause Chinese voters to discard dap. Malaysian urban voters simply want BN to lose.

Hmm....in politics, anything goes. Today i may be enemy. Tomorrow we may be allies. Dont believe?
