North Korean pop sensations the Moranbong Band are set to strengthen the bond between China and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea this weekend via song and dance. The group arrived yesterday in Liaoning province for their overseas debut which, according to Xinhua, will be happening at the Beijing's National Center for the Performing Arts from December 12 to 14.

Sadly, tickets aren't available to the public.

Formed by Kim Jong-un himself in 2012, the Moranbong Band has achieved success in North Korea with such timeless ditties as "My Country is the Best!" and "Let's Study." There's also a lot of hypnotically shiny costumes and perilous stilettos -- so, basically not too far removed from mainstream South Korean girl group fare, except with more legit instrument-playing.

The DPRK Korean Central News Agency has stated that the tour, which will also feature the military State Merited Chorus, has the purpose of "deepening friendships" between nations. To this end, the setlist is reportedly packed with Chinese-language tunes.

Regrettably, the actual Chinese public has been barred from the spectacle. According to DPRK's Donga Ilbo newspaper, only some 2,000 public figures are to be invited to the performances.

Check out what the weekend has in store for these lucky few:

Executed by machine gun firing squad... again

Reported demise: North Korean singer Hyon Song Wol was rumoured to have been executed, but she has since appeared in public

In 2013, Japanese and South Korean media reported that Kim's ex-girlfriend Hyon Song-wol was said to be among a dozen well-known North Korean performers who were executed by firing squad, although she was seen delivering a speech at a national art workers' rally in Pyongyang the following year.

There were also reports that nine members of North Korea’s Unhasu orchestra, where Ri Sol-ju, Kim’s wife, once worked as a singer - and the Wangjaesan Art Troupe had been executed for making a pornographic video, raising fears that Ri's reputation could be damaged.

Last month, about 80 people were reportedly executed by firing squad in several cities, many for watching smuggled South Korean TV shows.
