Kim Jong-un executed ex-girlfriend over secret hotel videos

Hyon Song-wol, the North Korean singer who was a former girlfriend of the country's leader Kim Jong-un, was reportedly executed by a firing squad with machine guns after she was found to have secretly filmed their time together at a high-end hotel, reports the Hong Kong newspaper Wen Wei Po.
Hyon, who sang with popular band Pochonbo Electronic Ensemble, was arrested together with and a dozen fellow artists on Aug. 17 for violating domestic laws on pornography. The group of singers, performers and dancers were accused of filming and selling pornographic videos in which they featured.
According to reports, Hyon was executed at a military training ground in Pyongyang with three machines guns each loaded with 30 bullets.
Some North Korean officials claimed that Hyon did not take part in the production of the sex videos nor did she disobey the ban against watching them, as earlier reports had indicated. She was allegedly executed because she secretly filmed her dates with Kim at the Koryo Hotel, the second largest hotel in the country. Hyon with the help of a photographer friend is said to have used the videos to show others that she was dating Kim, according to Radio Free Asia.
After Hyon was tipped off about the sex videos, she asked the national security department to initiate an investigation into the artists, which led to their arrest. However, the secret videos of her dates with Kim were also uncovered and Hyon was subsequently arrested and executed three days later.
According to Daily NK, an online newspaper focusing on issues relating to North Korea, Kim may have been disappointed by Hyon's behavior and thus ordered her execution.
