NEW MANAGEMENT AT HPB
HPB CEO to step down
THE chief executive (CEO) of the Health Promotion Board (HPB) will be stepping down from next year after five years at the helm.
Lam Pin Woon will be stepping down to join the private sector.
Taking over him as CEO on Jan 1 2011, will be Mr Ang Hak Seng, currently the Senior Director of the International Cooperation Department at the Singapore Police Force.
Mr Ang has more than 24 years experience spanning the policy, operations and international domains, and played an instrumental role in the successful campaign to secure the bid to host the Interpol Global Complex in Singapore.
Under Mr Lam's leadership, HPB rolled out several key initiatives to promote healthy living, spearheading the implementation of active ageing policies and programmes such as the Integrated Screening Programme and Chronic Disease Management Programme. Other major initiatives included the Obesity Prevention and Management Programme, the Lose To Win Programme, and the Dietary Guidelines for Children.
Mr Lam also played a pivotal role in introducing several innovative projects. Notably, initiatives like Health Promoting Mall and Healthier Food Choices Commitment have successfully positioned shopping centres as conducive venues for health-promotion activities and have also made healthier food alternatives more available to the public.
Mr Lucas Chow, Chairman of HPB, said: 'Pin Woon has done a tremendous job in spearheading health promotion and disease prevention programmes, and in motivating HPB staff to always give of their best. We wish him all the best in his future endeavours.'
