I wonder if anyone can recall Howe Yoon Chong.

He too became Perm Sec and entered politics late in his life and just like Khaw only wanted to serve 1 term.Both became controversial and interestingly the controversy was about old age. I could not help the identical manner that they behaved while in political office and whether years of policy making and execution had moulded them differently.

Both were known to be excellent administators, great execution skills and noted for their thoroughness. Both were also bold and spoke their mind.

How is it that both failed to read the ground. Is this a sign that the civil service had detached itself.

i donno about Howe, but i feel Khaw is low profile most of the time, when he speaks, makes many people blood boil...well at least most of the time.

It was not only because of his comment on the cpf withdrawal age. He has made statements like "How I wish the world will open up a big hole to swallow up all the PP residents" to show his disdain for the people, while he was the MP of that constituency.

Agree with you, many of the new ones including the one who does no porn, come across as those who come in for the money; just do the job according to what their 'employer' require them to do, practice what is required & dilligently, and follow the Standing Order Procedure, collect their wage & bonuses.
