SINGAPORE: President Tony Tan Keng Yam will be making a six-day state visit to Australia starting on June 15.

This is at the invitation of Australian Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove.

A statement from the Foreign Affairs Ministry says Dr Tan will visit Canberra, Adelaide and Perth.

This is the second state visit by a Singapore head of state to Australia, and Dr Tan's first as President of Singapore. The first was in 2005 by then President S R Nathan.

In Canberra, President Tan will receive a ceremonial welcome and be hosted to a State Lunch by Governor-General Cosgrove.

He will also meet Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Chief Minister of the Australian Capital Territory Katy Gallagher as well as visit the National Arboretum and lay a wreath at the Australian War Memorial.

In Adelaide, President Tan will meet the Governor of South Australia Kevin Scarce and the Premier of South Australia Jay Weatherill.

He will also visit his alma mater, the University of Adelaide, where he will be conferred an honorary doctorate.

Dr Tan received a research scholarship in 1965 and obtained a doctorate in applied mathematics from the university in 1967.

The last stop is Perth - where President Tan will meet the Governor of Western Australia Malcolm McCusker and the Premier of Western Australia Colin Barnett.

He will also host a reception for the Singaporean community and visit the Republic of Singapore Air Force Pearce Detachment in Western Australia.

Dr Tan will be accompanied by Mrs Mary Tan, Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew, Parliamentary Secretary for Health and Transport Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, MPs Foo Mee Har and Alex Yam as well as officials from Singapore's Foreign Affairs Ministry.

During Dr Tan's absence, Speaker of Parliament Halimah Yacob will take over the functions of the office of president from 15 to 18 June.

Chairman of the Council of Presidential Advisors JY Pillay will take over the functions of the office of president from 19 to 20 June.

Visit here, visit there without seeing any tangible benefit toour country. Always keep super-low profile as if hiding things from people.

And paid 4-million a year from taxpayers' pocket.....WTF ?

Why the hell does a minister, 2 parliamentary secretaries and two MPs need to go along?

PAP ministers and MPs are jetting around the world and has nothing to show. How are they accountable for the spending of our tax dollars?
