Two men were arrested and a haul of suspected ketamine seized by police today in a raid on a Hong Kong public housing flat alleged to have been used as a drug-packaging den.
The two Hongkongers, aged 24 and 25, were held when officers raided the Ching Hoi House flat on the Tin Ching Estate in Tin Shui Wai at about 1am.
Inside the flat officers seized 150 grams of what appeared to be ketamine and packaging equipment including electronic weighing scales.
According to police, the drugs had an estimated street value of about HK$20,000.
The arrests were made after the special duty squad for Yuen Long police received a tip-off and launched an investigation.
At noon, the two suspects were still being detained at Yuen Long police station for questioning and had not been charged.
Separately, police arrested another four suspected drug traffickers with 56 grams of what appeared to be crystal methamphetamine, also known as Ice, in Wan Chai last night.
The haul has an estimated street value of HK$25,000.
The two men and two women, aged from 28 to 35, were caught when officers raided a Jaffe Road flat at about 9pm last night. They were still being held for questioning.
Figures from the government’s Fight Crime Committee show seizures of ketamine recorded a 100 per cent rise to 236kg in the first four months of this year from 118kg in the same period last year.
The amount of cocaine seized between January and April this year increased 160 per cent to 120kg.
Customs and police officers also confiscated 152kg of Ice in the first four months of this year, a 21.6 per cent rise from 125kg in the same period last year.
