Walter Woon to leave MAS board

FORMER attorney-general Walter Woon is stepping down from the board of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) with effect from today, the MAS said yesterday.
Professor Woon, who is currently dean of the Singapore Institute of Legal Education, was appointed to the MAS board in May 2008.
The MAS also said yesterday that it has reappointed Trade and Industry Minister Lim Hng Kiang as its deputy chairman for another two-year period, starting from today.
Mr Teo Ming Kian, the permanent secretary of national research and development in the Prime Minister's Office, has also been reappointed to the MAS board for two more years.
The other directors on the MAS board, which is chaired by Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong, are Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam, MAS managing director Heng Swee Keat, Keppel Corp senior adviser and SingBridge International chairman Lim Chee Onn, Ministry of Finance permanent secretary Peter Ong, Central Provident Fund Board chairman Koh Yong Guan, and Allen & Gledhill managing partner Lucien Wong.
