Quote:SINGAPORE - Members of the 40-year-old Jurong Country Club expressed disappointment and shock, after hearing news that the club will make way for the upcoming high-speed rail (HSR) terminus.

Many also said it was a shame that the club's 18-hole golf course, which had only been renovated in 2010 for $24 million, will have to go so soon.

The Government announced on Monday that it has gazetted the acquisition of the Jurong Country Club site, with the club to hand over the land by November 2016.

Club member Shelley Yeo, 61, a housewife, said she was surprised by the developments, given that the club's land lease was until 2035.

good. when sinkies kpkb about too many golf courses, pappies listen. when a golf course is slated to be used for mass transport of eager sinkie bargain shoppers going to jb and kl, sinkies kpkb again. there's no pleasing of any sinkie whatsoever.

They can join SICC lah. Got to get rid of the cheapskate country clubs.

Aiyah! because of Cheng Bock's involvement with JCC lah

More sinister is a lease for 2035 can just be ignored by the government. What is the use of a lease if it can be ignored at any time? Beware!

It's more or less expected when they previously announced the shifting of bird park and redevelopment of Jurong East.
The country club is "sitting on a gold mine".

Precisely. There is no sanctity in contracts anymore.

Whatever happened to the mythical "social contract" of votes for jobs that Sporeans believed that they had with the PAP

If they can change the terms of the CPF withdrawal age, nothing is sacred anymore to LHL & his gang.

In the future when most land are acquired for commercial/residential purposes, all recreation/country clubs/sports allocated to a island nearby...lol

You don't own anything in Sinkieland... not even a golf course. ;)

Anyway, you should have expected this when Lee Hsien Loong bragged about a 'revamped' Jurong Lake District at the National Day Rally 2014. There were even published blueprints of waterfront hotels in the region.

One thing is for sure... you can kiss goodbye to the peace and tranquility in the Chinese/Japanese Garden. ;)

All these grumbling and disappointment is just for show, they will dissipate with compensation, at a price of course :p:p:p

More unhappy voters for the next GE. :)

I will happily vote the pAp next election for acquiring JCC. Such a lot of land used by so few people and mainly those highly paid JTC employees.
