Jobless man shot dead at point blank range in Pasir Puteh

BY SYED AZHAR

KOTA BARU: In yet another violent gun crime, a jobless man was shot 10 times at point blank range at a warong in Pasir Puteh just before Subuh (start of fast) prayers on Monday.

The bullets hit Amirul Tajo Nasir, 40, in the chest, abdomen and back in the 5.15am incident. He died at the Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital in Kubang Kerian at about 1.30pm.

Kelantan deputy police chief Datuk Mazlan Lazim said 10 bullet shells were found at the scene. The two assailants came on a motorcycle wearing black helmets and jackets.

Mazlan said they stopped beside Amirul Tajo and the pillion rider opened fire just as the victim was about to pay for his food.

Nor Hadiyana Zakaria, 25, (pix) the warong owner's daughter, who was collecting the money from Amirul Tajo, was injured after a bullet hit her right leg.

"The suspect opened fire from a distance of two metres from the victim. Amirul Tajo fell at the spot where he was shot," Mazlan said adding that the case was being investigated for murder.

Police believed the case could be linked to drug trafficking activities and those with information can contact the Pasir Puteh police station at 097867222.

Amirul Tajo's wife, Kasmawati Ariffin, 34, said her husband had told her that a man, only identified as Iwan, had hired someone to kill him.

Speaking to reporters at her home at Kampung Teosan here, she claimed that her husband did not have any enemies and did not know why someone would want to kill him.
