A JOBLESS man was yesterday placed on probation and ordered to do 80 hours of community service after making two underage girls pregnant.
The 21-year-old had pleaded guilty last month to having sex with a 14-year-old girl on two occasions. Four other charges of having sex with a 15- year-old girl were taken into consideration by the court. The judge ordered that no details which could lead to the girls’ identification be published.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Kavita Uthrapathy told the court that the 14-year-old had invited the man to her flat in May 2009 and they ended up having sex. They had sex again the following month, also in her home.
In September that year, she sought treatment at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital and had an abortion. A hospital employee informed the police, and the man was taken in for questioning.
Investigations then revealed that he had also been intimate on four occasions with a 15-year-old girl since May 2009. The teenager, who also became pregnant, kept the child. The man now lives with them, and the couple are planning to marry.
The girl’s father signed a $5,000 bond to ensure his future son-in-law’s good behaviour during the 15-month probation period.
