It BOGGLES the mind that an Uni/Poly or ITE grad can be jobless in Singapore.........

It is comprehensible that Biz enterprises are NOT charity organizations, and thus each employee MUST prove their worth before being hired.

However grads have only academic qualifications, BUT NOT WORKING EXPERIENCES, and most biz org, especially SME, would not want to spare the time, training and costs to assist and groom a newly minted grad into top mgmt positions, nor the grad willingly to accept the hardships and time taken to be groomed.....

The ONLY org that will do such is in govt service, as it will need talents, more so those whom have Uni qualifications as our Elected govt services for careers is based upon MERITOCRACY, at EVERY level of service, regardless of race, language or religion.

Uni grads would stand a better chance working in the Civil Service. Although the pay is low, but as grad, the path to the top is limitless, as our govt trusts that the Uni qualifications alone PROVES one's critical asset - MENTAL DISCIPLINE - to cultivate one's mind no matter the costs or the sacrifice to achieve academic excellence, and are willing to finance the time, opportunities to be groomed to top mgmt than others.....

Also, do bear in mind that in the Civil Service, it does not means one needs to put on uniforms such as in Mindef, SPF, SCDC, etc. There are other career options that allows the rather youthful, naive and idealism filled in grads over the perceptions of liberal freedom, etc....such as in research and development depts, etc...

Also, while the Civil Service comes with contract demands, it is mostly 6 yrs. And if one is resourceful enough, stay below the radar, be charismatic and friendly than to be haughty and argumentative, one may create GUANXI/ Connections and contacts with others, as the Civil Service deals not only with citizen's issues, but WILL get to meet citizens from all walks of life, including even Biz Leaders.....so long as one proves oneself honest, stick to the facts and gently communicate, proven hardwork and trustworthiness, etc, which ALL Humankind admires, even monsters in Human disguise...

With such contacts......6 yrs is quickly passed, and the OPPORTUNITY to work with others for better and challenging jobs awaits....as well if one is smart enough...the appointment for head of Civil Service depts awaits one should one stays on for the long haul......

Do take note that Singapore's White Paper is to support a population of 10 million. Thus, think of the NECESSARY Civil Servants and opportunities will be needed to serve such a goal.

As the Civil Service is a respected profession, as well as providing job security, it would be the best option for Uni grads whom have difficulties finding a job in the meantime, as Singapore is just too small to have thousands of MNCs operating here unlike bigger nations......and thus, the Civil Service provides an opportunity to put food on the table for oneself and loved ones, in the meantime, more so for those whom are considering marrying at young age.....

$6.9k a month is not much in the u.s. more like an ac tech with 2 years sexperience. either a blue collar job or a lowly clerk in a county role.
