Jailed for assaulting girlfriend
By Elena Chong
A YOUNG man was jailed for four months on Thursday for assaulting his girlfriend who wanted to break off from him. Goh Shengda, 23, a waiter, pleaded guilty to punching and trying to suffocate Ms Ho Chew Yun, 22, at his home in Toa Payoh on Aug 17. The court heard that the victim was in Goh's bedroom at about 4am that day when she told him that she wanted to end their relationship. On hearing this, he started to punch her face and tried to strangle her, causing bruising and swelling to her face. Pleading for leniency, Goh said he was very remorseful for his impulsive actions. He could have been jailed for up to two years or fined up to to $5,000 or to both.
