SINGAPORE: Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) medical officers do not revoke medical certificates (MCs) issued by external medical practitioners, Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen said on Monday (Nov 19).

He was responding in writing to a parliamentary question from Member of Parliament Muhammad Faisal Abdul Manap, who asked about the number of MCs issued by private general practitioners that have been revoked by in-camp medical officers in the last three years.


Dr Ng said that while SAF medical officers do not revoke MCs issued by external doctors, unit medical officers may conduct a clinical review of the SAF personnel's medical condition and propose an amendment to the MC.

"An amendment could include an adjustment to the duration of the MC, or exemption from specific activities. Personnel may at any point see the unit medical officer for a further clinical review," said Dr Ng.

He added that for such an amendment to be made, the medical officer either discusses the case with the doctor who issued the original MC or refers the personnel to a relevant specialist who can advise on the proposed amendment.

Army doctors have low self-esteems. The Captains are too junior, many are just like hospital housemen level so even external MCs are issued by medical practitioners who are more senior than them. Then the Majors and LTCs are jealous of the achievements of the external doctors (in govt hospital and private sectors), so AMENDING the MCs satisfies their narrow-mindedness. These Majors and LTCs are just waiting for their time to be up and get posted to adjunct teaching or positions in govt hospitals.

He is a bastard Psychiatrist from SAF whom even the medics work under him and SAF Counselors had to clear his shit. He never care for his patients and challenges them to die. The medics under him had to constantly manage those hurt by him. I was one of them in my younger days. The bastard won the challenge, so he is the right kind of breed for SAF. He felt that everyone was just wasting his time and his career path was hindered by two outstanding seniors, Dr John Wong Chee Meng and Dr Ang Yong Guan, who truly OT to spend time to help the soldiers.
