Many self proclaimed experts have been busy offering their analysis on Cambodia vs Thailand feud. All the discussions about 1:50000 map vs 1:200000 map, Who fired the first shot, Were the land mines old or new, etc. These are not the real reasons.
With Lord Elrond's 5000 years of knowledge in humanity, let me enlighten you.
Reason no 1: Hun Sen was very unhappy that the oil stakes in Koh Kod promised to him has hit snag. It is suspected Thaksin might have privately agreed to this while sheltering in Hun Sen's house. The phone leak has made this impossible as it stirs up nationalist sentiments and paralysed the Shinawatras.
Reason no 2: Hun Sen was very unhappy about Thailand's Plan to build casinos. This is one of Cambodias main income. Hun Sen has a stake in every business in Cambodia like the former Madam 5% of Indonesia, so this hurts his own pocket. Basically, he feels that the Shinawatras are not delivering all the promises made to him and even hurting his pocket.
Reason no 3: Hun Sen and his dynasty is facing dwindling support back home after ruling Cambodia for 4 decades and fleecing the country of its wealth while Cambodians live in poverty. Hun Sen is like the senior Marcos. You can fuck a young Cambodian girl for $20. In particular, he does not trust some factions of the Cambodian military. What other way to get rid of these internal threat than send them to be bombed by Thai fighter jets. More Importantly, like all dictators, he needs to create an external threat so that the country will stay "united" under his dynasty. This ensures his grip on power is strengthened.
Reason no 4: Thai government, under Chinese pressure, has been clamping down on the scam syndicates. The investigations within Thailand is leading to the source in Scambodia - where the largest scam syndicates operate from. PnomPenh cannot become the world no 1 Scam City without Hun Sen having a share. Strongman Hun Sen is the godfather who has a stake in every profitable business in Cambodia.
All that is happening in Thailand, as well as Hun Sen's internal troubles, lead Hun Sen to unleash his war option. He needs a war to stop everything that is moving against his interest.
Anyone who tells you anything without these 4 points are completely missing it.
