Occupied Jerusalem: July 9 -- (BNA)-- Israeli press reported that Israel was watching with alarm the arrival of advanced S-300 Russian anti-aircraft missile systems to Syria accompanied by Russian technicians and professionals.
The Hebrew-speaking newspaper - (Yedioth Ahronoth) - reported today that these missiles are expected to arrive shortly within a few weeks for the purpose of helping the Syrian regime and that all Israeli attempts to block this arms deal were futile although these missiles will pose a strategic menace to strategic Israeli interests.
Also, senior Israeli security sources revealed that the Israeli government does not intend to tolerate these missiles which threaten the free activity of Israeli air force in the northern region. The newspaper added that these missile systems may end up in the hands of hostile sides - whether Iran or Hezbollah - in case Bashar al-Assad's regime collapses.
The supply S-300 anti-aircraft missiles to the Syrian regime was part of a larger arms deal between Syria and Russian which includes the supply of other missile systems. (IY)
