U Star has been very successful in the past five years, opening more stores despite COVID-19.
The Chinese name 福星超市 rings a bell. The boss of Sheng Siong is called 林福星. Mr Lim Hock Chee is a philanthropist and respectable man in business, giving substantial bonuses to staff during last year's COVID-19 shelf-emptying madness.
Is it just a coincidence or U Star is a subsidiary of Sheng Siong? Or is it another retail supermarket venture of the founder Mr Lim Hock Chee?
