Nathan says that it is dangerous to elect a "populist" president.
He also said that it is necessary to make unpopular decisions because the people don't know what's good for them, but PAP knows.
(Well he didn't say it in this manner, but this is exactly what his words means)
A few points:
1) Why is Nathan weighing on the Presidential contest since he is NOT going to be a candidate himself?
2) Why is he openly siding with Tony Tan (even to the extent of personally endorsing him) when Tony Tan claims that he is independent?
3) Is Nathan indirectly trying to say that it was very difficult for him to support the PAP and be a compliant yes-man for 12 years, but he HAD to do it because that was good for SG?
