KUALA KANGSAR (April 26, 2013): Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the National Transformation Policy introduced by the Barisan Nasional (BN) government is much better than the 'reformasi' (reformation) and demonstrations propagated by the opposition.
The Prime Minister said that in the past four years, the BN government had brought much changes to the nation as well as prosperity for the people through the various aid programmes and initiatives.
He said these included the Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M) programme which was introduced for the benefit of the people, and the policies implemented by the government had in fact brought confidence to them as well as the foreign investors.
"The rakyat can now see that today is much better than yesterday. Tomorrow and the future will be brighter than today because (national) transformation can proceed effectively.
"That's why people are (now) not interested in the shouts of 'reformasi', demonstrations and chair throwing. Even the shouts of 'reformasi' by the Opposition Leader (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) don't get any response from the people," he said when addressing more than 5,000 people at the 1Malaysia People's Gathering for the Kuala Kangsar parliamentary constituency, here today.
Najib, who is also BN chairman, said the demonstrations or 'Bersih' rallies organised by the opposition previously, had not received any support from the rakyat. He said this was because the people were now more confident and comfortable with the BN government which had fulfilled various promises and was capable of championing the cause of the people.
"That's why I used one word when tabling the BN manifesto (pledges), trustworthiness...which means, among other things, when we promise, we fulfill our promises," he said.
The Prime Minister said the support given by the people to the BN government was not due to coercion, but because they believed the ruling government was capable of taking the nation to greater heights in future and subsequently attain the developed nation status by 2020.
"That's why in the BN manifesto, we want the people's trust based on merit. It's not that we want their support, but they offer their support. I said, if we deserve it, then give your support to the BN," he said.
In the last four years, the BN government had displayed its capabilities by honouring all its promises to the people.
"I'm making promises again this time as I will work towards fulfilling the promises.
"I fear when unveiling BN's manifesto as the Opposition says the manifesto is not a promise. If the manifesto is not a promise, then they should not table a manifesto.
"I want to upgrade the value of this document (manifesto). This is not a manifesto but the BN's promises (to the people).
"Being a Muslim, I know...I fear to the people, I fear more to God. The manifesto is an important and a major document to propel the nation to greater prosperity," he said.
The prime minister said contrary to the Opposition which only knows to make promises but had no means to honour them as what had happened in PKR-led state government in Selangor. He said the state government had failed to give allowance to single mothers and build affordable homes to the people as promised, among others.
Najib also questioned the Opposition's move to make various promises in their manifesto for this election such as reducing fuel price and scrapping toll collection because it was not easy to honour such promises.
The prime minister said before a government could take care of the people's well-being, it had to prosper the nation first and knew how to administer the country so that the economy could expand.
"We want to give to the people but it's not easy for us to give free, if it's easy, other governments can also do it. The Opposition talk sweet as honey, but in the honey, there's poison," he said.
Najib also questioned the weaknesses in the Opposition which claimed they were one team but on many things they do not have an understanding and they quarrel among themselves. For instance, in seat distribution to contest in this election, he said. He said the Opposition was not like BN, which was an "ideal coalition".
The so-called Pakatan Rakyat or People's Coalition comprised three registered parties which used different symbols and constitution, he said.
"They have formed a pact merely to become the prime minister. They really want Putrajaya. On whatever matters, you cannot be obsessed or act in desperation, it's dangerous.
"In their mind, they're obsessed to become the prime minister to the extent of acting being sworn in as the prime minister...they're thinking of going to Istana Negara.
"This is a question of holding an important post to serve the nation, you cannot be acting and feel self-aggrandisement. This is the people's mandate and God's fate. We can plan but the God's plan will become the reality," he said.
Najib said that even in such matters there was no understanding, maybe there would be tension or chaos if the opposition pact was mandated to rule this country.
He said the people should not pawn the future of this country, which was very precious, for the younger generation after enjoying the fruit of progress over more than 55 years, he said.
"One vote for BN, is one vote for a better future, while one vote for the Opposition will have serious implications (on the country and people).
"We continue to helm the nation as the people feel at ease and are comfortable with the BN's administration.
"I'm confident the BN will be returned to power in this Malaysian soil in this election," he added. – Bernama
