I have used both iPhone 3g, 4s and Samsung galaxy 1, 2, 3 through the last three years. My take is that apple has been complacent and can't seem to break out of its obsessive need to be idiot proof.
On the other hand, Samsung/google has been more daring to push the envelop and the customizability is superb by android 4, but the flexibility can be daunting for IT idiots.
Nowadays, iPhone users are more likely to be IT idiots because these are the target customers. By 2014, I'll bet that most students will not want to be seen with iPhone because it is a status symbol for being weak in IT.
