Man admits rape
By Elena Chong
AN INTELLECTUALLY disabled young man took a mildly-retarded woman to a rubbish chute area of a Housing Board block and raped her.
Ang Yeow Thiam, 21, admitted to raping the 24-year-old woman at the HDB block in Alexandra area on May 5 last year.
Both Ang and the victim have low IQs.
A Community Court heard on Friday that the woman, who gets scared easily, was on her way home that day when Ang took her from the MRT station to the central rubbish chute nearby and raped her.
Initially, the woman told her mother that she had been 'bullied''.
On further questioning, her mother found out that she had been raped. She even took her parents to the place where it happened. A police report was made.
Ang, who went missing and was placed on police gazette, was arrested on June 25.
Community Court judge Soh Tze Bian called for a pre-sentence report and for Ang to be examined by a prison doctor to determine if he is suitable for caning.
The offence carries a jail term of up to 20 years and caning.
Ang will return to court on March 31.
