2015/10/26 18:10:21
Taipei, Oct. 26 (CNA) An Indonesian woman on her way out of Taiwan was barred from boarding a flight to Jakarta on Monday after being found to have NT$6.4 million (US$197,590) in cash in her luggage at an airport security check.
The money was found in her checked luggage by aviation police at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. Her checked luggage and the money was later returned to her and she was not detained.
The woman, who lives in Taiwan and is married to a Taiwanese national, did not report the cash to the necessary authorities before departing but said the money was to be used to buy a house in Indonesia.
According to local regulations, each passenger is allowed to bring up to NT$100,000 when leaving Taiwan. For amounts higher than that, travelers are required to report the amount at the airport before leaving the country.
