Indonesian woman avoids death penalty, released in Malaysia

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian Nuruzahari bin Ibrahim, a 25 year old woman, will not receive the death penalty in Malaysia and will be released from detention after judge Puan Choong Siew Khim decided to release her.
The judge acquitted Nuruzahari after the public prosecutor accepted Nuruzaharis written plea and dropped all charges against her.
Originally from Aceh province, Indonesia, Nuruzahari was being investigated for alleged involvement in the selling of drugs in Malaysia. Nuruzahari was arrested by the Malaysian police while in a condominium in Kajang area, Selangor, along with five men and 191,6 gram of metamphetamine.
After the prosecutor dropped all charges against Nuruzahari, she was transferred to the Shah Alam immigration center, Malaysia, where she is waiting to be repatriated to Indonesia.
The Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur has been assisting numerous Indonesians who face the death penalty in Malaysia. From the period of January to December 2013, there are 42 Indonesians who have been saved from the death penalty, as 17 of these Indonesians had all charges dropped, while another 25 will receive jail sentences instead of the death penalty.
