Indonesia maid jailed five years for beating and stamping on disabled child

SHAH ALAM: An Indonesian maid was jailed five years and deported for beating, stepping on, and kicking a disabled child, that was placed in her care.

Magistrate Farah Azura Mohd Saad sentenced Tini Martini, 50, after she pleaded guilty to abusing the 10-year-old for almost four months, at the family's home in Kota Kemuning.

Tini Martini appeared shaken when the magistrate ordered that she be deported and blacklisted from Malaysia, after serving the prison sentence.

The facts of the case stated that the abuses had been caught on CCTV, and documented repeated maltreatment of the disabled child.

Tini was recorded hitting, kicking, stepping on, and dragging about the child.

In her complaint, the child's mother said Tini's "merciless abuse had shocked her".

Counsel Nur Elissa Baharudin plead for leniency, saying Tini had to care for four of her own children, which were under the care of a neighbour while their mother was being dragged through court.

Nur Elissa said Tini was regretful, and had taken responsibility and apologised for her actions.

Deputy public prosecutor Siti Rohaida Che Hamid urged for adequate punishment, considering Tini had abused a disabled child whom she was supposed to care for.

"This sort of action cannot be accepted, and it is even more cruel as the child was disabled," she said.
It had been reported that Tini worked with the victim's family since Sept 2013.
