Individual responsibility more important than us: MSE & Police

SINGAPORE — Individual responsibility is more important than enforcement action in preventing the spread of Covid-19, the police and Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (MSE) said on Tuesday (July 20) in outlining action taken against nightlife venues since they were permitted to convert to food-and-beverage (F&B) business last October.

In a joint media release, they said that “enforcement against irresponsible behaviour is but one of the tools to prevent the spread of Covid-19, and we cannot be relying just on it or expect it to be able to fully ensure compliance”.

“There is a limit to what enforcement can achieve. Business operators and patrons must play their part and abide by the (safe management measures) put in place,” the statement added.

A few points to share:

1. The outbreak is originated from the massive daily imports of COVID from Changi Airport. If we do not seal this hole, COVID will continue to leak in. The KTV girls got infected months after entering Singapore. It is Singapore that infected them.

2. According to my industry chatgroups, there are Singapore Pools branch cluster, none are flagged or asked to close down. The number of cases linked to Singapore Pools outlets is triple digits.

3. There are outbreaks in private schools but they are also not flagged. Yet when a single student in Singapore poly was infected a few months ago, the whole polytechnic was made to go back, squeeze together and queue for 2 hours to get swabbed. It makes me wonder why such stark contrast in the way we handle matters. Why are private schools untouchable or unnamed?
