Society is not difficult to manage.
Even though those highly paid superstars sometimes make it seem more complicated than a combination of quantum physics and brain surgery.
First you have a large space for individual freedom and rights.
Then there's a line called inconsideration. When someone crosses it, let him face society's disapproval and if neccessary, get his ass kicked, figuratively and/or literally. Society has to be cultivated to understand where this line is.
Further down, there's a line called illegality. Cross it and as the superstars like to say, they will go through "due process and be punished to the full extent of the law".
However, if you are going to squeeze 6 million people of diverse cultures and mindsets into a small area of land comprising many "shoebox" units, and you keep messing about with that supposedly large space for individual freedom and rights, it would be a miracle if it works.
Could it be because of this squeeze and also the existence of those who can really stretch out, which causes the difficulty in managing society?
Don't know whether that is the case, but in this kind of scenario, when you try telling people what to do, how to do it, what is best, what is right, otherwise they will be finished, they will be in trouble, blah blah blah, not many are going to listen docilely, nod appreciatively, chuckle and clap happily like they didn't have a care in the world.
Or perhaps the national day rally will prove that they will.
I won't be watching to find out.
