Edit
In Australia, citizens and Permanent Residents are given priority over foreigners where employment is concerned.
Someone wanting to hire a foreigner has to prove that such talent is not available locally. It is the foreigner’s special skill, and no the prospect of paying him a low wage, that determines whether or not he gets the job.
If Singaporeans feel that they are not given priority over foreign talent because they are more expensive, would it not be natural for them to seek greener pastures elsewhere?
Many qualified Singaporeans have given up good jobs and moved to countries such as Australia, Canada and the United States with their families because they think these countries can offer a better quality of life.
If a poor uneducated cleaner or security guard has the financial means and the qualifications, would he also nt look for better opportunities in other countries?
In the 1940s and 1950s, our forebears left their home and came here to seek a better life. Likewise, Singaporeans may choose to emigrate to escape the rat-race and tough competition for jobs.
