These students formly from chinese schools did very badly in their first language, not because they are stupid, but their foundation in english was weak.

good to note that whilst the mental process is in Mandarin, the English translation can be rather challenging at times

The nest step is to achieving being a Master Wordsmith. Having a wide vocabulary will take one further into mastering the English Language.

Do Sinkie students still memorise cheem words at school to impress without understanding the nuances in synonyms? Every fiber of their being is geared towards $ and face. What philistines Sinkies are! I don't know if I should laugh or vomit when I look at these pink IC holders

Imo, vocab can be acquired with ease along the way, if one's foundation is sound.

Btw, any good source to recommend for building the basic foundation for english?

I am still a student of the English Language and far from being proficient. It is my understanding that mixing with people who speaks English well, reading of books and using both dictionary and googling words can help one. For example, sometimes choosing certain words does help one to discover truths and wisdom amid the morass of information available to help you find your way.

Advice given from anyone is their personal experiences gained through their upbringing, background, internal and external influences and opportunities available to them. It will not be of much help taking such advice as your own life's experience does not mirror that of theirs.

Why I applaud you for wanting to better yourself is because there is so much to be gained after having achieved your goal. This passage will tell you why.
