Illegal subletting of stall at Old Airport Rd Food Centre
January 18th, 2013
[Letter was sent to Head of REACH feedback unit of Ministry of Communications and Information, Ms Nooraini Hamzah, and copied to TRE]
Dear Ms Nooraini,
I would like to inquire about the management of food centers.
I was informed that Stall #01-07 has been illegally sublet to a group of people since 2006 after I argued with them over the usage of table no. 14. It was during lunch time rush hour that I had wanted to occupy the table with a few colleagues but was told to sit elsewhere instead as they had “work” to do from that table. But what I can see was merely smoking, consumption of alcohol and the swearing of dialect profanities with their friends.
Since changes were supposedly made early last year for the renting of all hawker stalls, I do not see it being implemented at all as these workers from Stall #01-07 are still able to operate and hire their friends at will, without the owner being around all these while.
I do not even know if these people have undertaken typhoid jabs, enrolled and inspected by the relevant authorities as being fit to run a public stall. I also see many Chinese compatriots working at other stalls and cannot help but wonder if food served by them are hygienic for consumption.
Yours sincerely,
.
